WHAT AM I GOING TO LEARN IN PIANO LESSONS?
NOTE READING
Fun Apps and Interactive Music Games are incorporated into EACH LESSON!! Through these engaging activities, students will learn how to read notes in the Treble Clef and Bass Clef. These concepts will then be integrated into playing songs on the piano keys.
COMPOSITION
With teacher support, students will explore specific themes to create lyrics, rhythmic motives, melodic shapes, and finally the transformation into a melody to play on the piano … the final step will be the addition of supporting chords to their melody to create their very own song!
RHYTHM SKILLS
Without rhythm, life would be VERY boring! Rhythm adds excitement, variety and interest to melodies. It is the mathematics of music! Students will learn different note values and how to apply them to note playing on the piano!
SIGHT READING/EAR TRAINING
Students will progress faster when sight reading is incorporated into lessons because their brains must always be actively engaged in the process. Many piano students rely on muscle memory to make progress. When they play their piece, their fingers are hitting the right keys but their brains have taken a back seat. Sight Reading removes memory from the equation and requires a student to read notes, look for intervals, and identify patterns in music; important skills that create capable players.
LEAD SHEETS/CHORDING
If you want to learn to play popular songs fairly quickly and easily, learning how to play with a lead sheet is the answer! Students will feel success at being able to play recognizable music and popular tunes quickly. Once students get the hang of chord notation, they will become more proficient at playing complete songs.
PERFORMANCE SKILLS
The benefits of piano recitals and public performances for pianists are priceless. Performing in public builds confidence, focus and self motivation, as well as a sense of achievement.
